Help

If something will not scan

Why will my barcode not scan?
Almost always a physical reason rather than a software one: not enough light, the camera too close, glare off foil or gloss, a curved tin, or the barcode's clear margins cropped out of frame. Hold it 10–20 cm away in good light, or type the digits in instead.
The camera will not open on my iPhone.
Open the page in Safari. Camera access inside third-party browser apps on iOS has historically been restricted, so Chrome on an iPhone may not be able to start it.
Do my photos or camera frames get uploaded?
Camera frames for barcode scanning never leave your device — decoding happens in your browser and only the decoded number is sent. Photos for AI scanning are sent to our AI provider for analysis and are not stored on our servers afterwards.
Why did my scan find the product but show no calories?
The record exists but nobody has filled in its nutrition panel. This happens with crowd-sourced data. You can enter the figures from the packet, and contributing them to Open Food Facts fixes it for everyone.
Is my food diary saved?
Yes, in this browser, on this device. It never reaches our servers, which makes it genuinely private and also means clearing your browser data deletes it and it will not follow you to another device.
