Nutrition figures are estimates, not medical advice
This is the term that matters most, so it goes first. Everything this site shows you is an estimate:
- Packaged food comes from a crowd-sourced database. Records can be out of date, mistyped, or describe a regional formulation different from the one in your hand. Manufacturers also reformulate without changing the barcode.
- Photo scans are produced by an AI model estimating portion weight from an image. They carry real uncertainty, particularly for cooking fat, sauces and anything hidden under something else.
Nothing here is medical, dietary or clinical advice. Do not use it to manage a medical condition, to dose insulin, or to make any decision where an error would matter — speak to a doctor or a registered dietitian. If you have a food allergy, read the physical label: our data is not a safe allergen source, ever.
Your account
You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it. One person per account.
Acceptable use
Do not scrape the site, resell access, attempt to overwhelm it, or submit images you have no right to submit. Automated bulk querying of the scanner is not permitted; Open Food Facts publishes full data dumps for that purpose and you should use those instead.
Payment
Your first scan is free and no card is required for it. After that, unlimited scanning is $19.99 a month or $59.99 a year, billed through Stripe and renewing until cancelled.
Cancel at any time from your account page, which opens Stripe's own billing portal. Cancellation stops the next charge rather than cutting off access you have already paid for, and your scan history stays readable and exportable afterwards — we do not retroactively paywall data you already created.
If a scan fails because of a fault on our side, an unknown barcode or an unreadable photo, it is not counted against your allowance.
Your content
Your diary entries and the photographs you scan remain yours. You grant us only the licence needed to operate the service — to transmit an image to our AI provider for analysis and to show your diary back to you. We claim no other rights over it.
Availability
We aim to keep the site up but do not guarantee it. The food database is a third-party service and can be unavailable independently of us; when it is, barcode lookups will fail regardless of anything happening at our end.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Calorie Scanner is provided "as is" and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it, including any decision made on the basis of an estimated figure. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months.
Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be notified to signed-in users by email. Continued use after a change means acceptance.
